I began as most youngsters do, sketching with graphite on paper. I took two years of art classes in senior high school, where I was exposed to different kinds of artistic expression, styles, and mediums.
Many years later, after education, career, and kids, I began to oil paint. I am mostly self-taught and most of my artwork is realistic.
I also enjoy completing the occasional painting in “ Alla Prima” and “In Plein Air“. I have done paintings totally in palette knife and also encaustic with bees wax. I like trying new styles. I feel an artist should not be set in just one technique or style, they should be creative and free to express themselves in whichever style they feel right for that project. I have tried water colour and painted on board and wood. Occasionally I will do a painting with large brushes and heavy paint, but most of my artwork is completed with tiny brushes. My oils are professional quality and I prefer primed stretch canvas and primed masonite.
I can get lost for hours in my paintings, unaware of the hours flying by.
As my art career progresses, I have found myself drawn to portraiture . I love painting skin tones of persons of all races. There is something very exciting and challenging about mixing the paints and trying to match the skin tones and subtle changes in lighting and shadows on the skin that I find most intriguing and compelling.
