Artist Profile: Robin Crickmer
I began concentrating on painting a few years ago following my retirement from a career in teaching as head of the geography department at Hants West Rural High School, and as a part-time lecturer in geography at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I enjoy using strong, vivid colours and I think I can best express my ideas within those mystical qualities of abstract realism. My painting originally concentrated on watercolours, but I quickly took up acrylics and some oils as a more expressive medium for abstract work. I also use a variety of mediums and especially like to have texture in my paintings that give solidity to the work. I have shown my work at several recent exhibitions, and examples of my paintings are held in private collections in Canada, the United States, England, Honduras, Austria, and Germany.
