Artist Profile: Trina Grant Adam
Trina Grant Adam creates images that combine extreme rhythmic texture, evocative colouring and clean lines which gives her pieces a very graphic feel in keeping with her love of contemporary design.
Her sensuous images evolve through the spontaneous manipulation of paint achieved with anything from knives and spoons to gravity itself. Adam creates contrast by infusing lines of solid colour which support the intensity of movement contained within the work. Her technique is anything but quiet but her process is not without stillness. She intuitively knows when each piece is complete and allows the fuller meaning of an image to reveal itself during an incubation period of reflection that follows.
More recently Adam has begun abstracting her photographs where she sketches them onto the canvas; painting in solid shapes and colours where the subjects become clearer and more distinct the more distance we place between ourselves and the work. This technique reinforces the idea of our removal from life's most beautiful moments. Adam's work often incorporates scenes of children playing, foliage and various landscapes.
Trina holds a B.Sc. from St. F.X. University, has studied Cytology at Dalhousie University and is currently studying design at NSCAD University in Halifax, NS. Based in Wolfville, Trina shares her life with her husband Mark and their children, Oliver and Avi Mae and works from her home studio.
