Artist Profile: Zehava Power
Zehava Fine Art and studio is located in picturesque Halifax, Nova Scotia. Originally from Israel, Zehava Power can be found in her sun filled studio where she surrounds herself with abundant vivid canvases that feature both Mediterranean landscapes and Maritime seascapes. Her culture cross makes for an interesting array and contrast in subject matter: Maritime scenes next to desert vistas or people at the Halifax Public Gardens next to market vendors in Jerusalem.
Well recognized is her keen talent for painting people and figurative work, portraying people busy at their daily routines; turning the seemingly mundane unto the poignant. Her unique representational style boasts quick, loose brush strokes in bold exuberant color. Generous applications of paint contribute to a rich surface texture, and frequently her juicy acrylic paintings are mistaken as being created in oil. The work portrays an essence that is free, fresh, and distinctly Zehava.
Zehava’s artistic ability is not limited by canvas dimensions as she enjoys working in various sizes from miniatures to large murals. She often breaks free of her studio, working outside to take advantage of changing light and making personal intimate connections with her subject matter.
